Cross Country – Week 22 – “Club House” Wind-Up Run AGM & Presentations

We could not ask for a better day for a Wind-Up……..

We could feel spring in the air as we hit the Athletics Track at the Athletics Clubrooms for a 2km, 4km or 6km looped grass track. followed by a yummy BBQ, salads and cold drinks.

It was fantastic to see many “Sporting Theme” dress up enthusiasts join in on the Wind-Up celebrations.

Cross Country Results – Week 20 – “Terry Rd”, Plus 13km “Worner’s Wander”

Todays’ second meet at the Terry Road Cross Country series featured the new Special Event “13km Worner’s Wander” trail run. Colin Pass passed up his Railways footy strip to take out this inaugural event in the calendar and his navigating challenge is highlighted in the map at the finish line. He finished in a time of 59:04.

The usual three-event program (2km, 4km & 6km trails) also featured championship runs (Sponsored by Basil Worner) for first over the line Male and Female runners and a novelty three-runner teams event.

This novelty, based on average team time and age, was also a new event which attracted eight teams who were invited to choose unusual names with a prize judged “The most memorable name”. An independent adjudicator picked The Shaniquasas” as the most puzzling, but The Buckstarsas” runners-up for adopting the most jazzy title.

The Cow Pat Trio”, who tackled the 13km course through some cattle country were, appropriately, awarded an ‘honourable mention’.

Team “Strategic Planning” with Chris Langslow, Neil Ferreira and Barend Joubert lived up to their name by winning the running event with their carefully constructed average.

The more serious championship runs produced some fine performances. Troy McCahon just fell short of breaking the magic ten minutes in the 2km with his time of 10:05. But bettering his previous run of 10:09 the week before.

The 2km female division was well won by Chelsea Sobik in a time 11.38. Which was her first time at Terry Rd.

“Diminutive” ………..surprised the crowd by toughing out the two-lap 2km course not long after Aaron Scullard had won the men’s division for this 4km race.

These awards were kindly donated by Basil Worner:
2km Runners:
1st Male – Troy McCahan
1st Female – Chelsea Sobik

4km Runners:
1st Male – Aaron Scullard
1st Female – Georgia Whitelaw

6km Runners:

1st Female – Zoe Bascombe

Plus Special Event 13km Worner’s Wander:
1st Male – Colin Pass
1st Female – Sophie Osburn

The Terry Road series ends next Sunday with the final of the keenly-contested Club Handicap Runs and Championship Winners.
