2020 Cross Country Windup & Awards

Well what a Cross-Country Season its been for 2020!!!!…… Who would have thought a world pandemic would occur and cause so much disruption and uncertainty!!!

But we managed to pull together a mini season of Cross-Country where many PB’s where achieved and lots of fun was had.

A HUGE thank you to all our volunteers!!! We could not have done it without you… It takes a tribe to build a club and we certainly have so many helpers that have a passion for cross country. With all this help we are able to provide you young ones and the older ones with the opportunity to run, walk, stroll through our amazing Albany Cross-Country venues.

Well done to all members and participants you should be very proud of yourselves for getting out there, pushing your selves and achieving you personal goals.

We had our annual AGM, Windup and Awards and are proud to announce our 2020 winners are…….

Thank you all for an interesting but still a fantastic 2020 Cross-Country Season! See you next season or join us (or The Albany Little Athletics Club) for the 2020-2021 Summer Track & Field Season which will commence in October. Registrations will open soon.

2019 Albany “Park to Point”
 Fun Run
on Sunday 20th October 2019

About The Event:

You have been asking and we are delivering. The Albany “Park to Point” Fun Run will make it’s debut on Sunday 20th October 2019. With 3 event options:
– 10km, Starting at ANZAC Peace Park and finishing at Emu Point,
– 5km, Starting at Middleton Beach and finishing at Emu Point and
– 2km Kids Dash, Starting and Finishing at Emu Point.

Cross Country – Week 22 – “Club House” Wind-Up Run AGM & Presentations

We could not ask for a better day for a Wind-Up……..

We could feel spring in the air as we hit the Athletics Track at the Athletics Clubrooms for a 2km, 4km or 6km looped grass track. followed by a yummy BBQ, salads and cold drinks.

It was fantastic to see many “Sporting Theme” dress up enthusiasts join in on the Wind-Up celebrations.

We also held our AGM for the year and finished with presentations.

A Little Bit of History of Albany Athletics Club

Albany Athletics Club began in 1972 at various venues around Albany: Yakamia Primary School (250m), Albany Senior High School (300m) and Centennial Oval (400m). It was formed by the Albany Lions Club to provide a summertime activity for primary school children as well as to promote an interest in Athletics.

So the decision to develop a home 400m Running Track was greeted with enthusiasm. It was originally planned for development of the track in 1975, but due to lack of water for summer reticulation it was held up. While reticulation was some way off, the Albany Council gave approval to the Albany Athletic Group to work on the track so that it could at least be used for the first half of the season.
