A Little Bit of History of Albany Athletics Club

Albany Athletics Club began in 1972 at various venues around Albany: Yakamia Primary School (250m), Albany Senior High School (300m) and Centennial Oval (400m). It was formed by the Albany Lions Club to provide a summertime activity for primary school children as well as to promote an interest in Athletics.

So the decision to develop a home 400m Running Track was greeted with enthusiasm. It was originally planned for development of the track in 1975, but due to lack of water for summer reticulation it was held up. While reticulation was some way off, the Albany Council gave approval to the Albany Athletic Group to work on the track so that it could at least be used for the first half of the season.

2018 Elleker Half Marathon & 10km Road Race – Record Breaking Event

Our 2018 Elleker Half Marathon & 10km Road Race was a great success. We had record numbers participate this year with over 260 competitors take part in the Half Marathon, 10km Run, 10km Walk, School Kids Event and a Kids 2km Dash.

Albany teenager Kyle Kowalski surprised himself to become the first local winner of the Elleker Half Marathon in more than a decade on Sunday.

Club News

Australian Masters Athletics Championships – Perth – 26th to 29th April 2018

Albany Athletics Club members Peter Muller, Kath Hannig, Barbara Wilson, Brenda Painter, Carey Dickason, Jasmine and Carl Heslop  and Denmark athlete Erica Mercer travelled to Perth for the 2018 Australian Masters Athletics Championships competing in a variety of events and collecting a swag of medals between them.  As Perth hosted the event the usual State Championships were not held but WA members were able to collect state medals in their events, thereby enabling them to collect two medals per event at times.
