Cross Country Results – Week 17 – “Mt Clarence” – Plus Special Event Dickason’s Dare

The sun came out in style today. With beautiful blue skies and perfect running and walking conditions for our second week at Mr Clarence. We had 47 runners and walkers hit the trails of Mt Clarence and Mt Adelaide for our usual 2km, 4km or 6km courses. (And no-one got lost YAY!!)

We also had our Special Event “10km Dickason’s Dare”, a truly challenging trail not for the faint hearted, but 16 trail enthusiasts took on the DARE challenge. (with all of them succeeding, and only a few taking a little detour to get there)

Everyone deserves a HUGE pat on their back, as these courses are our most toughest and challenging ones we have to offer.

A Little Bit of History of Albany Athletics Club

DO YOU HAVE STORIES, PHOTOS, ANYTHING RELATING TO ALBANY ATHLETICS CLUB???

We would love to hear from you. Please email us at albanyaths@hotmail.com

Albany Athletics Club began in 1972 at various venues around Albany: Yakamia Primary School (250m), Albany Senior High School (300m) and Centennial Oval (400m). It was formed by the Albany Lions Club to provide a summertime activity for primary school children as well as to promote an interest in Athletics.

So the decision to develop a home 400m Running Track was greeted with enthusiasm. It was originally planned for development of the track in 1975, but due to lack of water for summer reticulation it was held up. While reticulation was some way off, the Albany Council gave approval to the Albany Athletic Group to work on the track so that it could at least be used for the first half of the season.
